Red Bull Neptune Steps 2019
Race Reports, March 29, 2019
Chris Davidson took on the challenging Neptune Steps with 420m to swim and 7 locks to climb!
Club member Chris Davidson took on the Red Bull Neptune Steps last weekend at Maryhill Locks along with approximately 600 other participants. All Chris had to do was zip up his wetsuit, don his cap, goggles, neoprene gloves and boots and maybe a thermal neoprene vest... and jump into the warm 8C degrees water and swim 420m (easy peasy I here you say!) Alas, the tricky part was that there were just 7 lock gates in the way, which he had to hoist himself up and over via ropes and ladders in order to get to the finish!
Chris trained well for this mad race and did himself and the club proud finishing in a time of 12 mins 2 seconds. Chris reported the following “I was 19th out of 31 in my heat and 207th out of 329 in my category, not bad for a 420m swim with 7 lock gates in the way. Lots of room for improvement but paced myself well and felt like there was a bit left in the tank, great event but the best part was getting my picture taken with Ross Edgley!”
Fantastic mad racing Chris, so you will be signing up next year again?!😉👏👏👏
• A wee note, this is one for the ladies too as there was a record number of sign-ups, up 20% from 2018.
